American searchers spent a lot of time in January hitting the search engines. ComScore said Americans made 6.9 billion searches for the month, with Google handling 3.3 billion of them. Those searches gave Google 47.5 percent of the market, and that was a little increase over their December share.

What is a web design?

A web site is a way of communicating your message to the world. It can be a simple one page site with just the basic information about your business and services or it can be as elaborate as you wish. A web site acts like an interactive full color talking brochure available to your customers 24 hours a day 7 days a week from anywhere in the world. Once it is put on the internet, the costs to maintain it are nominal. The key factor in web design is to provide information about your products and services in a fast, easily navigated manner.

You may have the best designed and most efficient site on the worldwide web, but if people can't find you it is meaningless. Think of your web as a luxury resort in the middle of the South Pacific. It may be beautiful but if no one knows it is there or knows how to find it, it will slowly deteriorate and die from inactivity. Therefore, critical to any web design is marketing and promoting it. This can be done through proper design and a few simple steps such as registering with search engines, adding the proper meta-tags and promoting the site through your regular advertising media.

What does your web design do for you?

There are so many websites on the internet nowadays, so if you want a great website that stands out from the crowd, you are going to have to have brilliant web design incorporated into it.
A website that is badly designed will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. If you want a website that is remembered for the right reasons, you are going to have to have a design that makes your website unique.
Your web design is the first thing that people notice when they arrive at your website. If you have an untidy website with bad graphics and terrible navigation, you are going to lose your readers and viewers right from the start. That is why web design is important in the process of creating a successful website. Whether it is a personal website or one that you intend to use for business purposes, it needs to be well designed and well maintained.
If you can grab the reader's attention by graphics that are relevant and useful, text that is of a very high quality, colors and layouts that are easy on the eye, then you are half way there! Research has shown that more people buy from websites that are designed professionally and look trustworthy, rather than quickly made and with badly thought out designs.
So, you can see how important your web design really is now. There are many ways to improve your web design, both for free and by hiring someone else to do it for you. Which you choose will depend on your budget and your time frame. A busy web designer may not be able to fit you in for months.
How you layout your website is also very important. You may have lots of great content on your website that people would love to read, but what if they can't find it? If you haven't clearly and easily laid out your website in the web design process, your readers won't be able to find any other pages. This could be disastrous if you are selling some kind of service or product.
All in all the web design aspect is only a small part of getting your website up and running, however, it is very important. When you are designing your website, remember to make it easy to navigate, concise and clear.
If you are not familiar with web design and all the aspects that go into creating a website, it may be worth your while looking for a professional web designer or a pre made template. Web designers come with different price tags all depending on where you get them from and what you need doing.
If you want a relatively simple design you will be looking at a fairly cheap price. If you are looking for a complex website with many features you can expect to pay a fair amount of money for it. A good designer will include you all throughout the process. You will be able to approve the website as many times as required.
Ready-made templates are great if you don't have the budget for a professional designer and don't have the time to learn how to create one from scratch. There are many free ones that you find on the Internet or ones that you can buy for a small amount of money.

Why bother to advertise on the net

This is a common question asked by business owners who generally are not connected to the web or for whatever reason don't use it. However many of your customers are wired and are surfing the net more than ever. Without a web presence, you leave yourself vulnerable to losing your hard earned customers to your competition. A good web design can drive traffic to your door or phone.

Once a customer mentions finding you on the web and questions why they couldn't contact you directly from your website, you'll become a believer and modify your site to make it easier for them to do business with you.

The web is the fastest growing advertising medium in history. It can not be ignored. It's viable method of communications with new and established customers.

Help ! None of this makes any sense to me... What should I do ?
FIRST, if NONE of the following makes any sense to you... you should NOT be using MySQL. It is a VERY ADVANCED feature, and if you are not an experienced programmer, then we suggest that you get one first.

Again, we STRONGLY suggest that you find an experienced MySQL programmer when attempting to work with MySQL.

Snce you don't offer direct techincal support for MySQL, where can I go to get the info I need ?
For detailed information regarding MySQL, you can go to the MySQL
Online Manual:

http://www.mysql.com/Manual/manual_toc.html

We suggest Drew Star.

www.SuperScripts.com
Do you support MySql ?
Yes, we do "support" it. Meaning that we offer MySQL as a standard feature on our servers. BUT, we do NOT provide ANY technical support on it.
I'm looking for a web hosting solution, but before I sign up I need to know how much memory (RAM) you servers have. Database that I will be running requires servers to have AT LEAST 64 megabytes to run.
f you are running a database that needs at least that much... DO NOT HOST WITH US.
You need a dedicated server.

Our machines generally have 200-500 domains per server, and if your db needed that much all by itself it would bog the server down to a standstill and we would have to disable it.
Can I use Oracle as database?
No, I am sorry we dont support that
.I can't get my database to work, can you help me ?
We can help if OUR SYSTEM is not running properly... but, if you just can't get your program to run... We charge $90/hour or you should immediately contact an experienced programmer.
Where can I go to find FREE database scripts ?
You can go to:
freecode.com
superscripts.com
cgi-resources.com

15. I am trying to send e-mail and I keep getting the error "Mail Relaying Denied"... what do I do ?
In order to allow you TO SEND MAIL from your domain, you need to Authenticate by logging into your POP server first.
This will solve this problem :)
Please read the reasons as to why we do not have "open-relay" below.
The recent problem concerning SMTP is a actually a feature that our servers have and is not meant as a hindrance to your or your business. Let me explain how this feature works and will benefit you and then we can work out the details to help you use this feature. This feature is to protect you and the rest of our clients from SPAM and from being blocked or labeled as a SPAM-relay. Certain "blackhole" companies like ORBS have put together a database of Hosting companies and servers that have an open Mail-Relay. ORBS will go to each IP address on a server and if they can send mail through your server they put you in their database and inform you that your relay is open. ORBS then gives this database to ISP's around the world. If someone from that ISP tries to send mail to anyone on your server the ISP will see that you are on the database and deny that mail from getting to you. No if, ands, or buts, the mail just drops off the net. ORBS had previously blocked some of the servers on our network in the past! From mail traffic. We have removed these servers and we are working with ORBS to keep the rest of the servers from getting in the ORBS database list. As you can see by now that if your server is put on the list you will slowly loose every piece of email. That is why we have had to close Mail-Relay for the server. Therefore this is actually a feature that we have to offer.
In general it is best to use your ISP's SMTP server and if you do not need your own SMTP server you should use your ISP's outgoing mail server(SMTP) in place of your domain's.

16. Is possible to change my pop3 email password from the Eudora's "change password" option?
No, you must do this via your online control panel.

17. Does your mail servers support IMAP protocol ?
No, we do not support IMAP

18. Do you also provide Batched SMTP ? I'm looking for that, because I want programs such as MS Exchange Server to communicate with your server. I don't want the clients to communicate with your server, I want them to communicate with the MS Exchange Server.
No, we do not offer this feature.

19. Do not know how to set up Autoresponder with formmail I keep getting error MIME file in my mail box?
You cant set up an Autoresponder with Formmail

20. How do I go about setting up the auto-reponder message so that I can have it read "Dear (the client's name) I want the autoresponder message to address the client by his or her name filled out in the form. How would I set up the autoresponder message to do this?
This cannot be done.
The autoresponders can only send prewritten textual messages, that cannot be altered or customized for different customers.

21. How many response can you set your auto resonder to ?

Our autoresponders send out your message ONE TIME.

22. I cannot get my email autoresponder to work?
Ok, please try a couple of things BEFORE contacting tech support
1. Please try renaming the autoresponder. Sometimes, the system for one reason or another just does not like an autoresponder name and changing it slightly can fix it.
2. Make sure you give it at least 15 minutes. It can take the system up to 15 minutes to update your autoresponder changes... so please dont give up after 30 seconds.
3. Make sure you are not redirecting your autoresponder to another autoresponder. This is very dangerous and can harm the server.

MS FrontPage

1. How come ONLY my index page is not loading when I publish my site?
Right click index.html (in FrontPage)select properties -> select Workgroup, chances are that you have checked off "Exclude this file when publishing the rest of the web." =)
2. How do I BACKUP my website using FrontPage ?
Open your web in FrontPage, as if you were going to edit it.
Next, in your folder list:
Click on the little - (minus sign) so that it changes to a plus and pulls all of your files into the one directory named: http://yourdomain.com/
It should also be highlighted now.
Next, go to "File"
Choose "Publish Web"
CLICK "Browse"
Now, select your desktop. We suggest you create a folder on your desktop called "BackUp".
Now, select the backup folder, and click "Open"
Lastly, Click "Publish"
Thats it.
It may ask you some questions, but that is all you have to do. It will copy/publish your entire site to that folder of your choice
3. Contact support, sometimes we need to install Frontpage extensions, manually.
I usually work directly on my websites using frontpage. what do I need to do to activate frontpage for my domain.

5. Is MySql database compatible with FrontPage?
No, it is not
6. I need frontpage extentions added to my account.. what do I do ?
Contact support, sometimes we need to install Frontpage extensions, manually.
7.Formmail gives FrontPage extension error.
You know you have FrontPage extensions, and yet when you try to use formmail.pl, you get this message:
_____________________________
You have sent a form or have followed a link to a page that requires a Web
server and FrontPage extensions to work correctly.
This form or FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish (copy) this web into a web server having the FrontPage extensions.
___________________________
SOLUTION: Use FrontPage's own forms.
FP has the equivalent of formmail, and it is very difficult to use formmail and FrontPage together.
Although it may be technically possible, instructing a client on how to do this is simply beyond what we offer in FP support.
8.Troubleshooting Common Problems with FP98
The following are common problems and solutions encountered with using FrontPage and FrontPage98. If you are having a problem not listed here, please feel free to contact support for help.
Getting error - "Root Web Busy"
FTP or Telnet to your site and remove the "service.lck" file in /www/_vti_pvt. This usually happens when a FrontPage session is interrupted before completion. Server timing out when publishing large sites.
This difficulty arises when the uploading link times out in the process of copying the web to our server. The only suggestion Microsoft has offered so far is to break the main web into a group of sub webs on
your PC, then upload these individually. If this problem persists for you, please contact support.
Getting Error - "Front Page Extensions not Installed"
We often see this error being reported even when the extensions have been installed. If you get this error, please contact support and we'll make sure the extensions are installed and repair them if necessary.
NOTE: The extensions are easily corrupted. Please use only FrontPage Explorer to update your web site
on the server. Never use FTP.
I published but my web's not there!
This will happen when the "Destination Web Name" is filled in when publishing to our server. This box should be left blank. If you put any other name in this box it will create a subdirectory off of your root web and copy all of your files into it. Your site will exist under a subdirectory instead of at the top level /www where it should be.
My counter, bbs, guestbook, etc isn't working.
These problems are generally due to incorrect permissions on either the directory, file(s) or cgi script(s) that are associated with them. Please don't change the permissions of your files or directories unless you have a specific reason for doing so and you know what effect it will have on your site.
My forms won't work through the Secure Server.
The call to a cgi script using the Secure Server must not be within a webbot. Use a normal cgi call in your html script for Secure Server calls.
My search bot doesn't return any results.
The /www directory must be world readable AND you need to recalculate links BEFORE publishing (or after editing directly on the server). If it still doesn't work: FTP to the server and go to the /www/_vti_txt/default.wti directory. Delete any files that begin with "ALL.". Don't delete any other files. Then using Windows Explorer, do the same thing on your PC. Recalculate links, test locally with your browser and publish.
FP starts the Web Publishing Wizard when I try to publish.
Cancel the operation and contact support to have the FP extensions installed/repaired.
Why is my page renamed on the server when I publish?
The "Default Document" of your web is automatically renamed by the server to what is required by the configuration of the server. For example, if you've named the main page "index.html", it may be renamed "default.html". Just check the links to your main page to make sure they refer to it the same way.
NOTE: If you are using FrontPage, you should NEVER use regular FTP to upload your files. This will damage the extensions. Stick with one or the other all the time.
9. Getting Started with FrontPage
Open FrontPage 2000 and CLICK
File
Choose Open Web
Then type in your domain name in the FOLDER NAME BOX, type in your domain name in the following FORMAT: http://yourdomain.com/ or http://109.23.323.22/~username
YOU MUST put it in in this format or it will not work.
CLICK OPEN, and you may have to click OPEN again...
THIS should load your entire site, where you will be able to dynamically edit the entire site.
10. Publishing Your FrontPage Web
After you have built your web pages on your computer, you will be ready to publish them. Basically, this just means that you will upload them to our server. Once this is done, your pages will be viewable from the web. However, you must do this in the following manner. Warning: FrontPage Account holders should never use FTP to transfer files as it can damage the FrontPage extensions.
1. Launch FrontPage Explorer and open the web you’ve created on your computer.
2. From the menu at the top of the window, select File, then Publish
3. A) If this is the first time you publish to our server, select More Webs and enter the location you want to publish your FrontPage web to. (www.yourdomain.com) Hit Return (Enter) on your keyboard.
B) If you have published to the server before, your "Destination Web Server" (www.yourdomain.com) will appear in the Publish window.
IMPORTANT: Use www.yourdomain.com as the Destination Web Server to publish to our server. Leave the "Destination Web Name" blank.
4. You will be asked for your USERNAME and PASSWORD. This is your domain's User ID and your FrontPage Password (which may be different than your regular Telnet/FTP/POP password). If you're not sure what it is or if you aren't allowed past this point, you'll need to contact us for a new FrontPage password.
5. You can watch the progression of the upload by looking at the bottom left corner of FrontPage Explorer.
11. Open Your Published Web
Once your FrontPage Web is published and online, you will need to access it to make updates and changes. Be sure that you are connected to the internet before attempting to open your web on our server.
1. Open FrontPage Explorer and choose File > Open FrontPage Web.
2. You can now choose to open a previously created web on your PC or your web on our server.
3. Highlight the appropriate web or type in the web address (www.yourdomain.com) and click OK.
4. Enter your Username and FrontPage Password if required.
5. Make modifications and recalculate links if needed. (See your FrontPage Manual for info on when it's necessary to recalculate links.
12. I am using Frontpage. Does this confict with many of the offerings of your site? yes, FP will conflict with all kinds of things. If you want to use anything with your site that is NON-FP, then it is best not to use FP at all.

E-Commerce Process
The E-commerce process is essentially the entire process that takes place when a customer’s data is collected, stored, analyzed, and then presented back to the customer in a useful format. Our E-business process is only a small portion of our E-commerce process. Because of this, our E-commerce overview will concentrate on the portion of our system that is not visible to our clients. This portion of the system is the “behind the scenes” part of our business strategy. Our e-commerce plan is based upon the storage and analysis of two groups of data:
• Demographical data on their customers who are using the arcade machines
• Usage statistics of the arcade machines (time in use, money collected, etc.)
The demographics information that our system will collect will be data such as the age, sex, and location of our customer’s patrons. Other types of information that can be gathered are the genres and types of games that the patrons are interested in. If we find that patrons are willing to provide us with more information than this basic data set, we may expand the field of information collected and provided to our customers.

Our clients will be able to view the data we have collected and analyzed via a web page that our company will provide via the Internet. Clients will be able to visit our website and log into a customer-specific secure web page, thus protecting the value of their data from unauthorized access. When the client is logged into our system, they will have access to canned reports that have been generated from the data collected via our system at the customer’s business location.

Process description:
Magnetic card-based units located on each coin-operated device in the arcade serve as data collection points. A database server at our customer’s site (one per site) stores the data received from the card units. Once a data collection period has passed (one week, one month, etc.), the records from the database server are dumped and returned to our company. The exact method of transferring the record data from the customer to our organization can vary depending upon the level of security and automation required by the customer. Data can be dumped to a writeable CD and mailed to our company, or the data can be transferred via the Internet. The exact details can be negotiated on a site-by-site basis.

Once the data has been received by our organization, it is used to populate a database server located at our facility. SQL-based queries are then used to present various views of the data to our customers via our web server. Access to web pages that generate those queries is password locked, and the web pages themselves are sent via an encrypted connection. The analysis of the data via the SQL queries is the primary value added opportunity that our company offers to customers. It is the collection, analysis, and presentation of this data to the customer that form the core of the service we provide.
